Year 5

New Involvements

A number of exciting new elements are introduced in Year Five including the interschool sports program, the Concert Band, Orchestra and Choir programs, leadership development and drama performances. This, along with a significant emphasis on academic enrichment, provides the boys with an inclusive program.

鶹ýAV Junior School boys in Year Five are provided with opportunities that enable them to develop their ability to work and play confidently and consistently within the whole school community. The school focuses on the development of skills and understandings related to Physical, Personal and Social Learning, Discipline Based Learning and Interdisciplinary Learning.

Year Five boys enhance their knowledge and build skills and attitudes that allow them to display a resilient approach towards learning and social behaviour. In developing positive work habits the boys follow directions, work independently, improve their organisation and consolidate their ability to concentrate. They are expected to relate well to peers and adults, work and play cooperatively with others, and display courtesy and initiative. During the course of the year, they consider the rights, beliefs and needs of others, develop an understanding and appreciation of self, demonstrate confidence and competence with interpersonal relationships and manage themselves in a variety of situations.

The boys develop skills that allow them to apply independent thinking strategies and communication. Each boy is encouraged to manage his level of effort and take steps to foster his own learning. Boys are made aware of the need to reflect on their learning, monitor their progress, ask questions and further develop ability to formulate generalisations, explanations and points of view.

During the year boys have developed specific knowledge, skills and interest in a wide range of academic areas, explored concepts in depth and applied their learning to the real world.
